Toenail fungus-- will my nail grow back?
I just got home from my doctor appointment, where I found out I have toenail fungus and she told me that "it will NEVER grow back". Heartbreaking! I pointed out that the nail is cracking off very far at the bottom-- it looks to me like the nail has already started growing back in, but she said that the broken part will fall completely off and the short part that I see growing in will just stay as it is.
Basically, I am looking for a second opinion because my doctor has no sympathy or doubts in her mind about her quick diagnosis. I was expecting to hear that it will or at least COULD POSSIBLY grow back, especially because this is what I found online.
Any thoughts?

No I'm sorry, but if your nail already fell off due to a fungus, the mechanisms behind keratin production in those specific areas of your toe are damaged beyond repair.
There was an attempt by your body to grow another nail, but it will not grow back completely.
Toe nail fungus comes in many different forms, but most forms do not have regrowth after impaction.

Toenail fungus is hard to get rid of and your nail will not grow back until you get rid of the fungus. It will grow back I don't know what your doctor has been smoking. But the medicine needs to be applied a couple of times a day for months to get rid of. If your diligent the fungus will go away and your toenail will grow back.
I'd personally hold hope but I haven't seen you. As long as the doctor has you applying the medicine to treat it I would hold hope. If they just upset you and don't treat you definitely see another doctor.
