What is this white stuff on my toe nail....Fungus?

I have had toe nail polish on my nails for months and months without letting my nails breath. I know this was dumb but I am not wearing nail polish for a long time now. Anyways, when I took off my nail polish my big toe nail was completely white. I tried to buff it away, and most of it came off. Then the next day it got white again. My husband says it's fungus, but I just think it has to do with the long time nail polish use. What do you think?
