Conditions Commonly Mistaken As Nail Fungus

Do nail fungus signs oftentimes mislead you that you have the disease? Look into the most commonly mistaken nail fungus conditions.

Even if you have been educated with the signs of nail fungus, there is still a great chance for you to commit a mistake on the detection of the disease.  Well, you are not a doctor and unless you go to one, you may never have a concrete conclusion on your situation.  This is why you also have to take a look at the most common conditions mistaken as nail fungus manifested.

The most common manifestations of nail fungus are changes in the color of the nails.  Well, you have to know that not all discoloration existing in the area is sufficient for you to rule out that you have fungal nails.  You have to gain ample background on this subject matter.

Pretentious nail fungus manifestations

As earlier said, there are conditions commonly mistaken as nail fungus.  If you are experiencing any of the following, feel free to tell your doctor at once.  This will help him know whether you have to undergo other tests and examinations.

•    Lines on the nails.  The most common reason to the appearance of nail lines is nail biting.  Pregnancy, may also lead to this sight.  Although the center of the nails change in color, this does not mean that you have nail fungus.  In fact, this occurrence is considered ordinary to a lot of people.

•    Nail ridges.  Brittleness may be a sign of nail fungus.  Though this is the case, the ridges that may take place on the area is not always said to be nail fungus manifested.  In certain instances too much soaking of hands in the water may make the nails brittle.

•    Yellowish nails.  Yellowish nails are not always said to be the cause of nail fungus.  Sometimes the change of the nail color into this hue simply means that the nail may somehow be separated from its bed.

•    Red or black nails.  This nail discoloration issue is often attributed to improper blood flow in the area.  This is also a common sight for people with hematoma due to some cracking or whacking of the nails by a heavy object.  As your nails grow and are trimmed regularly, this discoloration will also go away.

•    Green nails.  The pigmentation process brought about by green nails is due to some bacteria which separates the nails from their bed.  This is not the same as nail fungus though treatments may have to be administered for a couple of weeks or so to avoid the effects of the green nails.

•    Pitted nails.  Even if nail distortion is a sign of nail fungus, not all incidences under this category are considered to be affected by the incident.  Skin conditions such as psoriasis may be the known cause of this situation.

If you have been encountering any of the above-mentioned occurrences, feel free to go to your doctor and ask whether what you have is nail fungus or not.  Don’t ever self-medicate as this may even cause you more harm.  Your physician definitely knows what’s best for your plight.
