What are Norwegian scabies? How can it be interrelated with nail fungus? Here are facts behind this disease.
Scabies is a kind of skin problem which is the result of the invasion of small ticks that nestle beneath the surface. People are perfect providers for the disease by giving their blood as an excellent food for the mites wherein they hatch their eggs. When your skin is invaded by scabies, you will experience inflamed and prickly skin, and you are most likely to build up hives in the region of invasion. Hives is the outcome of an allergic response due to the emissions of the mites or ticks. It can be misguided as other kinds of skin problem like psoriasis, rosacea and other types of skin conditions which has a similar look.
Scabies is also called "seven year itch" and "Norwegian itch". This is considered a more severe type in which an outer layer develops on your skin. Ticks that result to scabies in animals are dissimilar from groups established on people and had no ability to invade individuals.
Life Cycle of Scabies
Scabies ticks fit in to the arthropod group Arachnid. The ticks are spherical in shape and are around 0.44mm in length. It has four couples of sharp legs that contain sucking gadgets on its first two couple of legs. The life cycle of ticks or mites includes four phases namely; egg, larva, nymph, and adult.
The last two stages develop eight legs. Complete growth of mite eggs into a full blown adult is from 10-14 days. Their life span lasts up to a month. This specific mite thrives only in human wherein its life span will only be comprehensive due to the blood meals provided by human beings. Scabies ticks that thrive on animals have no capability of invading humans or the other way around.
How Scabies Increases
Scabies are extremely communicable and it is broadened through different ways. The most common way of acquiring scabies is through skin-to-skin contact. Other ways include sexual intercourse, sharing your personal belongings, and utilizing beddings or towels with people who are invaded by scabies.
Indications of Scabies
It commonly occurs at the creases of your skin. Scabies is usually found in various parts of the body like wrists, arms, elbows, knees, sex organs, fingers, waist, buttocks, and even beneath your arms. In young children, scabies can be very discomforting due to intense itching, especially at night.
Some of the symptoms that you will experience include reddish areas, pimples, lumps, hives, and even eruptions on your skin. You may also see some small, murky stripes crossways of your skin. You will also experience exposed wounds due to scraping that can lead to another bacterial contamination.
In severe cases, scabies can strike elderly individuals. There is a great possibility that their skin may be invaded by mites which can result to the coagulating of the skin. This is due to the millions of ticks and eggs that thrive in their skin. In view of this, it is hard for topical medications to be administered to persons with severe Norwegian scabies.
Nail fungus and scabies are interrelated due to the process of how both diseases propagate in the body. They happen because of improper hygiene and through sharing your belongings to another person. Always be patient if you already have these disorders.
