All The Facts On Ringworm Of The Scalp And Beard

What is the disease called ringworm of the scalp and beard? Is this tinea infection contagious? Here is a list of the relevant information on this fungal infection.

As you already know, ringworm is a kind of contamination that can infect your skin, hair, or nails.  The most common cause of ringworm is fungus.  Ringworm of the scalp can affect both older people and young children.  Another type of ringworm which affects the beard is not customary.

Causes of ringworm of the scalp and beard

Ringworm of the scalp or beard is also caused by fungus that can increase on the uppermost surface of your skin and hair.  It is also regarded as a highly infectious disease that can easily be transferred to any individual from direct contact with a person or animal which is affected by a fungal infection.  This can be transported from one individual to another without experiencing any kind of indications of the contagious disease.

Characteristics of ringworm of the scalp and beard

Ringworm of the scalp or beard is usually associated with circular patterns and hairless spots on your scalp.  The most common pattern it creates is contamination that spreads away from the ring when the inner part of the loop is already translucent.

The ringworm of the scalp or beard is not at all times seen in circular configuration.  It can be mistaken as dandruff, in which your hair may split off.  Some people may already be affected by ringworm however they do not experience any kind of indications of the disease.  In particular serious cases, the contaminated parts of your body will swell and the color of the skin will be reddish.  The infected skin becomes brittle and painful with tiny lumps that are similar to wounds.

Determining ringworm of the scalp and beard

The ringworm of the scalp or beard is easily determined through its shape and look.  The most common pattern is circular with a reddish sort of rash around the infected area.  However, if you are not convinced that you have ringworm, you can go to your doctor for consultation. If you remain unconvinced after doing so, he can recommend some laboratory tests so that you can be satisfied with the results.

Treating Ringworm of the Scalp or Beard

This type of tinea infection is easy to cure.  Your physician may prescribe some oral medications that will get rid of the fungus.  He may also recommend a special type of shampoo to inhibit the ringworm from further contamination of the neighboring skin and other people as well.

Ringworms can recur so it is necessary that you should not share your combs, brushes, and other personal things to others.  This will prevent the disease from spreading.  As much as possible, discard the personal things you had used during the time that you still have the infection so that it will not recur.

Always be mindful of the contact you make with other people.  They may bring the disease to you without letting you know about it.  In both ways, you may become a victim the way that the other person is.  Hygiene…hygiene…hygiene…is being stressed as always.
