Jock Itch: Seven Ways Of Stopping This Tinea Infection

Jock itch is a tinea infection which may affect the other parts of your body if you will not treat it at its onset. Different individuals may be targeted by the disease. Here are some simple ways of stopping its occurrence.

Jock itch is tagged as the most usual fungal contamination that can appear on your groin or upper thighs.  It is a fraction of a cluster of fungal skin contamination which is commonly known as tinea.  Tinea Cruris is the medical term for this kind of fungal infection.

Just like any other kind of tinea infections, jock itch is the result of numerous kinds of mold-like fungi known as dermatophytes.  These are fungi that can only be seen through a microscope.  Dermatophytes thrive on the lifeless tissues of our skin, hair, and nails and live in lukewarm, damp parts of your body such as the inner part of your thighs.  Your groin is the most common habitat of jock itch because it is usually moist due to perspiration.

Who can be affected by jock itch?

Jock itch affects individuals who sweat a lot, especially on their groin.  The most common victim of this kind of fungal infection are athletes because they tend to perspire a lot while playing sports or exercising.  People with health problems like diabetes mellitus, excessive weight, and those associated with the immune system can also be affected with jock itch.

Indications of jock itch

Jock itch is one of tinea infections considered as a mild case.  If it is not properly treated at the earliest time possible, it can go on for several weeks or even months.  The symptoms of jock itch are:

•    reddish red colored rashes in circular pattern that increase in lift up frames
•    irritating, rasping, or blazing sensation in your groin, thigh or anus region;
•    the color of the skin in your groin, thigh, and anal region may turn reddish;
•    and shredding, detaching, and breaking of the skin around the affected area.

How to stop jock itch

This kind of fungal infection commonly reacts to proper care and hygiene.  In some serious cases, you can see your doctor for a prescribed medication.  Here are simple ways on stopping jock itch:

1.    Thoroughly cleanse and dry up the affected area.
2.    Do the treatment continuously at the recommended duration of medication to ensure that the fungal infection is completely healed and to avoid recurrence of the contamination.
3.    Take a bath everyday and after you finish exercising or playing your favorite sport.
4.    Maintain dryness on the parts of your body that are prone to moisture by using clean and sanitized towels.
5.    Refrain from sharing your personal belongings with other individuals, especially if they are already affected by fungal infection.
6.    It is a must that you wash your athletic clothing regularly.
7.    If some parts of your body are already infected with fungal infection such as athlete’s foot or ringworm, make sure to cure them immediately.

Treating jock itch is not a problem since it can easily be treated through proper hygiene.  The use of antifungal products could also be a great help to your condition.  Prevent the spread of this disease at once since it is contagious and may spread to other parts of your body.
