Nonsurgical Nail Removal: How Does This Nail Fungus Treatment Work?

Have you ever heard about nonsurgical nail removal? Well, if not, better look into this page and see how it could work as a nail fungus treatment.

You may have heard a lot about topical solutions and oral medication for nail fungus.  You may actually think that this is the same as the nonsurgical nail removal.  However, the latter is a different technique which is not exactly the same as the first two mentioned.  You have to know what to expect from this procedure.

Getting into surgical nail removal may somehow be a problem for a lot of people.  In view of the things associated with the procedure including the pain and discomfort, you may be quite adamant to undertake the procedure.  This is the reason why you may always run to nonsurgical nail removal options.

What is nonsurgical nail removal?

Nonsurgical nail removal also concentrates on your nails just like the surgical removal does.  The only difference is that the former focuses more on the damaged portion of the nail – not the entire area.  It is painless and will always leave your healthy nails unharmed.  In some cases, you may also have your entire nail removed if necessary.

The procedure usually involves putting a cloth-like adhesive tape to the surrounding area where fungi is predominant.  The skin which is left unharmed would oftentimes be the target of your doctor for placing the adhesive.  An ointment with urea content will then be placed on the surface affected by nail fungus.  Then your doctor will place plastic and tape on the area which will stay that way for around seven to 10 days.

The procedure is actually done in order to soften the nails.  This makes the procedure painless since there is no need to use a pointed material to remove the nail that had been affected by fungi contamination.  If you want your case to progress, there is a need to always see to it that the area is dry at all times during the ten-day period.  As soon as your doctor sees that the nail had softened, he will then be ready to remove the damaged portion without you actually feeling it.

What to expect after this nail fungus treatment?

If you want to make sure that the treatment is effective enough, take note of how long the procedure may affect the growth of your nails in the sections where the previous ones were removed.  Since nonsurgical nail removal is applicable to both fingernails and toenails, better spot the difference via the length of time your nails will recur again.  Fingernail growth may take six months while toenail development may even reach as far as 18 months.

For long lasting results on this treatment, make sure that you always keep the area dry and clean.  You must also place antifungal ointments on the area up to the time that it has fully recovered.  In some cases though, you might get disappointed because the treatment may not fully heal the occurrence of nail fungus.  It may recur in the future.

Nonsurgical nail removal is oftentimes recommended as a nail fungus treatment for not-so severe cases of the nail fungus infection.  If you are looking after this technique, you have to consider the above-mentioned steps and expectations.  Be very keen in making your decision.
